About Ryan

Ryan Slocum began piano lessons at the age of twelve with Ashley Tardif. After entering Pine Tree Academy, he studied with Doris Krueger, adding organ in his junior year. While at Pine Tree Academy, Ryan also sang in the choir, played Euphonium in the band, and rang English Handbells. As a member of the Bell Ringers, he performed frequently around Maine and was a part of their tour to Quebec and has performed in three “Christmas With Kennerley” concerts at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, ME. In 2021, Ryan won a top scholarship in the Kotzschmar Organ Memorial Trust Scholarship Competition. He performed on the organ at Methuen Memorial Music Hall in 2022 and 2024 for the Young organist concert being featured on the organ program “Pipedreams Live”.  

A prolific arranger and composer, he composes for choir as well as for piano, organ, handbells, concert band, and strings. He also enjoys improvising on hymns during worship services. Ryan attends the University of Southern Maine, where he is a music major and studies organ with Hentus van Rooyen and previously studied with Christopher Pelonzi and Justin Murphy-Mancini. 

Ryan is Director of Music at the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Oxford, ME, and serves as organist at the Auburn United Methodist Church and West Auburn Congregational Church. He is the piano accompanist of the Pine Tree Academy PreK -12th grade choirs. He frequently substitutes as pianist for other area churches. He is an active performing member of the Portland Rossini and Marston Kotzschmar music clubs.
